Gift Aid
How does gift aid work?
Many Charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) are missing out on additional income in the form of Gift Aid. You can give your charity a 25% boost in income from donations, without any additional cost to the donor. Charities and CASCs can claim 25p of Gift Aid on every £1 donated from individuals. The donor must:
- have paid the same amount or more in Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in that tax year
- make a Gift Aid declaration that gives you permission to claim it
Small donations scheme
For smaller donations, charities often feel that completing many gift aid declarations can be too much of an administrative burden, given the amounts involved. However, you may be able to claim 25% on cash donations of £20 or less, even if you don’t have a Gift Aid declaration.
The Gift Aid small donations scheme (GASDS) allows you to claim up to £1,250 in a tax year under this scheme.
