Exeter Charity Seminar
We are excited to invite you to our Charity seminar on Tuesday 21st March at Exeter Science Park. Registration and refreshments will be from 9:00am with the seminar starting at 9.30am. We will be joined by industry experts from Children’s Hospice South West, Tozers Solicitors and Charles Stanley. This is a great way for us all to get together, learn from the experts but also remind ourselves what is important and why we are all here.
Guest Speakers
Laura trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in a large regional firm where she worked for 14 years. Laura left this role in January 2020 and went to work for a large regional Charity as their Head of Finance. This role has given Laura a valuable insight into the internal workings of a complex business entity and extensive experience of working with employees and volunteers at all levels, regularly presenting information in an understandable way to people of all levels of financial literacy.
Laura has recently joined Griffin Chartered Accountants as Partner and will start the morning off by discussing managing change through continuous improvement and asking Is your reporting and systems fit for purpose?
Amy is a partner and solicitor who trained with Tozers before qualifying, working with corporate, charity and school clients. With over 10 years post qualification experience, Amy has specialist charity law knowledge with a particular interest in safeguarding matters for schools and charity clients.
Amy is well positioned to advise on all aspects of corporate work for charities, schools and companies, including mergers and collaborations, incorporations and conversions. She has a strong track record and focus relating to corporate transactions and governance across those sectors. Amy will be discussing adaptability, sustainability and resilience – updates from the Charities Act 2022″.
Richard is Branch Manager of the Exeter office of Charles Stanley. He is an Investment Manager and looks after portfolios for private clients, trusts and pensions and works closely with their other advisors to enable a strong partnership for holistic advice.
Richard is a graduate of Exeter University and has been working as an Investment Manager since 2001. Richard is a former trustee of a local charity and has developed a strong link with both local and national charity contacts and is now actively involved in looking to develop his work within the charity sector.
Richard will discuss a review of an Investment Policy and themes/considerations for Ethical/ESG investment.
Paul is the Director of Fundraising at Children’s Hospice South West.
Hearts and Minds
Sometimes we can get a little bit bogged down in compliance, planning, policies, systems and processes. That’s all good stuff – but we’ve also got to remember why all that is important. Generating funds, investing funds and robustly governing the work of our charities all have one common denominator – the stories and lives of our beneficiaries – the beating hearts of our charitable objects. Paul will explore how unlocking the heart can help to inform our approach to the diverse and sustainable income streams on offer to keep it beating.
